Making it Work for You: Marimekko

The Marimekko for Target collaboration was not as popular as Target had hoped. It was a collection/designer that fell off the map a little after the crazed HYPE of the infamous Missoni and Lilly Pulitzer collaborations that are all too fresh in the minds of many consumers.

I have always been a fan of Marimekko; the crazy pattern mixing, the oversized florals, and the all around pop-art inspired garments have reminded me of Factory Girl and Andy Warhol prints. I was given the Marimekko coffee table book at a young age, which I poured over far too often in my endeavor to learn how some designers make history and others fade away like Dexy’s Midnight Runners after their ever-popular hit, Come On Eileen.

Anyway…I ended up succumbing to my childhood love for Marimekko, and picked up three pieces from this collection to add to my wardrobe for the upcoming warmer season. Here are three ways I plan to wear these pieces.

The two dresses and the cropped tee are what I purchased from the collection. I mixed pieces of Kendra Scott jewelry, fun shoes, and relatively inexpensive, classic bags with each of the Marimekko pieces. There are various outfits you can do with the top, and you could use the dresses as swimsuit coverups or tops tucked into skirts. The possibilities really are endless!
